The Trent and Tame Language Hub
The Trent and Tame Language Hub is one of the first phase of fifteen National Consortium for Language Education Language Hubs in England.
The National Consortium for Language Education (NCLE) is funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and is delivered by the IOE, UCL’s Faculty of Education and Society (UCL IOE) in partnership with the British Council and the Goethe-Institut.
The key aims for NCLE are to:
- Encourage high-quality language teaching in schools
- Increase Languages uptake at GCSE
- Support levelling up opportunities for disadvantaged pupils
- Address the performance of boys
- Better recognise the rich diversity of languages in addition to English spoken by one in five young people in schools.
The Trent and Tame Language Hub will work alongside a network of Language Hubs in England supporting this work. Harnessing the expertise within the region and building on the recommendations from the 2016 Language Pedagogy Review, the Trent and Tame Language Hub will work closely with a network of partner schools and affiliate schools to re-energise language teaching and learning. Ultimately, the Language Hubs hope to encourage more pupils to study, to enjoy and to profit from their language learning opportunities in primary school and beyond.
