Cathryn Mortimer

Director of Arthur Terry Teaching School Hub

Cathryn Mortimer is the Director of the Arthur Terry Teaching School and an experienced school leader. Under her leadership, the Arthur Terry National Teaching School Alliance has gone from strength to strength, training outstanding teachers from ITT through to headship. With a SCITT team of outstanding practitioners and a school to school support team comprising 42 SLEs and 3 NLEs, the Teaching School has made a demonstrable impact in the region.  With a distinction level Masters in Educational Leadership Cathryn regularly provides high quality training to teachers and leaders at all levels.

Anna Balson

Director of Education, Primary

The Arthur Terry Learning Parntership

A National Leader of Education (NLE). Under her dedicated and inspirational leadership, Anna took Mere Green Primary school from a struggling one-form entry, undersubscribed ‘requires improvement’ primary school to an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted outcome in just two years and it is now a very popular, oversubscribed two-form entry community primary school.  She maintains strategic responsibility for Mere Green but her wider role now sees her responsible for school improvement and performance management across all primary schools within the ATLP. Anna delivers training, leadership support and challenge to head teachers and leadership teams, as well as developing partnership-wide systems for assessment and portfolios of evidence.  Anna has an outstanding record of accomplishment as a school leader.

Simon Roberts

School Improvement Lead. Secondary

Simon Roberts has enjoyed a variety of teaching and leadership roles and led on the successful application for The Arthur Terry School to become one of the first 100 teaching schools in the country.  As a member of the Leadership Ambition Team, Simon provides school improvement support to leadership teams across the secondary schools in the trust using coaching and mentoring strategies. He played a significant role in the strategic planning and implementation of the MAT wide knowledge-engaged curriculum and champions collaboration across the trust to ensure the very best outcomes for all pupils.  As Deputy Head Teacher of The Coleshill School, Simon was instrumental in moving the school from Requires Improvement to Good.  A passionate geographer, reflective practitioner and advocate of the principles of Leverage Leadership, the impact of Simon’s work can be seen across all schools within the MAT and beyond.

Nicola Gould

Deputy Headteacher

Nicola Gould has a strong track record of success, having led two schools in Birmingham, the most recent, an inner city school judged to be ‘Good’ in all areas.  As an Evidence Lead in Education (ELE), Nicola actively engages with evidence-based research and is currently engaging with research into raising attainment in reading.  As a member of the Leadership Ambition Team and designated a Birmingham Leader for Education (BLP), Nicola provides school improvement support to leadership teams across the ATLP and has been seconded to support schools in three different multi-academy trusts. Nicola facilitates the development of the ATLP curriculum and makes a  significant contribution to the strategic direction of professional development across all ATLP secondary schools, utilising the principles of Leverage Leadership.  Nicola holds strategic responsibility for literacy across the ATLP and for student culture across all ATLP secondary schools.

Helen Hastilow

School Improvement Lead. Primary

Helen Hastilow is an experienced leader who has made a significant contribution with proven impact at senior leadership in different school contexts. As a Deputy Head Teacher at Mere Green Primary school, she played an integral part in moving the school from RI to Outstanding in just two years. During her time as Head Teacher at Slade Primary, results have shown year on year improvement and Ofsted (2019) judged EYFS, Personal Development Behaviour and Welfare and Leadership and Management to be Outstanding. As a member of the Leadership Ambition Team, Helen provides school improvement support to leadership teams across the primaries in the trust using coaching and mentoring strategies. She also supports the development of the MAT Curriculum and champions collaboration across the trust to ensure the very best outcomes for all pupils. Helen also chairs the Central Maths Hub Strategic Board supporting system leadership at a Local and National level.

Tracy Williams

Specialism: Languages

Tracy Williams is an experienced school leader who has made a significant contribution to the development and implementation of the ATLP knowledge engaged curriculum.  Alongside offering school improvement support to ATLP Leadership teams, Tracy also holds strategic responsibility for the MFL provision across all ATLP schools.  From MFL curriculum design to ITT subject pedagogy training, she has a track record of building relationships with colleagues and students to raise attainment and enjoyment of MFL at all levels.  In April 2020, Tracy was seconded to the Oak National Academy to lead the MFL provision.  Initially responsible for a team of teachers creating virtual lessons to facilitate home learning, Tracy then focused on Oak’s KS4 French provision. In this role, she was responsible for leading a team of nationwide teachers, developing a carefully sequenced and fully resourced virtual KS4 curriculum which embeds the principles of the 2016 Teaching School Council’s MFL Pedagogy review.

Wayne Perry

Specialism: Data insight, systems and assessment

Wayne has immersed himself in the field of data analysis in education for over ten years. With experience of primary, secondary and post-16 phases, Wayne has a proven track record of collecting and analysing data, supporting school leaders to make informed decisions based on evidence. As Data Manager for the MAT, Wayne has strategically overseen the implementation of assessment and management information systems in a variety of different schools, enabling staff at all levels to use data to make a real difference to student outcomes.
