ECTE Content and Training

Revamped and updated for 2025 and beyond, the ECTE includes evidence informed training which revisits and refines learning from the ITT curriculum. From September ’25, both Initial Teacher Training and Early Career provision are bound by the same framework document, the ITTECF.

The areas of content – and the underpinning evidence base – of the ECTE curriculum and coaching support entitlement are the same as those covered in the ITT curriculum. You can see the broad areas of study in our graphic opposite.

Content is covered through a combination of diagnostic quizzes, tailored self-study and taught training days.

Additionally, all ECTs are allocated a mentor who works with them in school, coaching them and supporting their progress through the ECTE.

Expectations and Requirements

As an ECT, there are a number of different components to the support you receive and the training you must complete during the ECT year.

You can see the expectations in our graphic opposite.

It’s always worth remembering that ECTs get reduced timetables to enable them to access and complete these statutory entitlements. ECTs receive a 10% reduction in year one and 5% in year two.

ECTE Events Structure

ECTE events are designed to work flexibly, with ECTs attending one event each term.

This means that no matter what point in the year an ECT joins their school, they just attend one event, with all ECTs across the region.

While our events do cover content and evidence from the self-study components, they are designed to support ECTs regardless of which point they are at in their independent online work.

You can see how this works for the three starting points in the drop-downs below.

If you are looking for information about courses that started before September 2025, consult our legacy pages.

Event Groups and Dates

We operate bespoke groups for ECTs, based on the phase or specialism they are currently working in.

We use the names of famous chocolate bars for our groups. You can see a breakdown of what the group names mean in the graphic opposite.

When you attend one of our events, you will taught in these groups so that you are able to discuss and share with colleagues working in similar circumstances.

ECTs and their induction tutors will also be notified of which conference event they need to attend each term by email. Sometimes, if a school has a high number of ECTs, we will spread colleagues out across different days. Normally, we do this in liaison with the school’s induction tutor but if you think this could help your school, please get in touch to let us know. You can use the contacts at the bottom of this page if you need our support.
