North Birmingham ITT Update: Autumn 24
Thursday 17th October, 2024
As the Teaching School Hub for North Birmingham, we have a strategic responsibility to support and promote initial teacher training across our region. We do this in three key ways:
- Mapping existing provision and capacity to support placements for trainees
- Supporting ITT providers to find placements in schools by sharing information, brokering relationships and signposting routes into teaching
- Outreach into underserved communities and hard to reach schools across the region
In this brief update, we will share some opportunities and ask you to complete a short pulse survey. We will aim to share more frequent, brief updates as we move through the year.
Assessment only route to QTS, support session October 24:
If you have colleagues in your school with significant teaching experience, that you believe are meeting the Teachers’ Standards and want to support them to gain QTS, the assessment only route into teaching may well be the right option for your school. Attached, you will find a flyer from Titan Partnership. Please take a moment to read it, and if you are interested use the QR code to book onto the spotlight support session – Tuesday 22nd October 8-9am. If you aren’t able to join this session, you can always get in touch with us at the Hub, or contact Titan directly on 0121 607 1930. More details about the Assessment Only Route can be found on our website here: https://arthurterryteachingschool.atlp.org.uk/train-to-teach/assessment-only-qts/
Pulse Survey – 2-3 minutes to complete:
We were delighted to be able to map the provision across 81% of schools in North Birmingham last year, with that information leading to a number of new partnerships between schools and ITT providers. However, this data and the agreements made are now out of date. We are determined to keep a clear picture of provision across the city, and to give schools different options for how to get involved in ITT. Now that this academic year is in full swing, please take a moment to review the capacity in your school and complete our very short pulse survey at this link: North Birmingham ITT | October Pulse Survey

We understand that there are huge pressures affecting all schools in the city, and that the requirements surrounding ITT and the ECF carry their own additional challenges. Part of our work is about identifying the barriers and opportunities surrounding ITT in the area. Your insights and opinions are vital to inform our actions.
